We were supposed to go to the river to celebrate Family & Friends Day with Sis's dragonboat team, Hope Afloat, a group of breast cancer survivors. But our plans were drowned by the sheets of pouring rain.

Empty Pool
What a *beautiful* day! I went to the Clubhouse @ 1:30 because I knew the pool didn't open until 5. Such beauty, such quiet, no radio playing, no one walking around!
Sitting on the pool deck reading "What Bassam Sees" in the City Paper: Bassam Sebti lived through the first three years of the war as an Iraqi in Baghdad. He's watched the last two from Philadelphia.
Read it!

outdoors
We usually eat outdoors, but it was too breezy for Mom even with the heaters going. The room with the fireplace that she likes was full.

The tablecloths are paper and removed after each group. There are crayons for the kids to use, but of course, *we*drew.

Bad Day @Black Rock
Awakened by a banging sound and metal clanging. Got up quickly and found Mom had fallen backward into the bathtub! She had grabbed for the towel rack which broke apart, hence the clanging rods. Luckily the towels softened her fall.
Helped her out and called Sis who happened to be @ the drugstore in the area. She came over and we sat with Mom for hours, wayching, talking and snacking. She's doing OK now. It's that same thing that put her in the hospital last month. There's nothing the doctors can do to help.
(You can always tell Sis' car by the E-A-G-L-E-S flag and the big dent in the back.}

Cinco de Mayo
A day to celebrate Mexican heritage and pride that has degenerated for many into another day to go out, get drunk and act stupid. That's why we weren't on the roads on Saturday when many celebrated and won't be out tonight.
I show you this drawing on my bedroom wall of myself, Sis & her friend Kate. We were @ an outdoor café in the Zona Rosa in Mexico City (1973) and an artist drew this cartoon of us. Ah, Mexico!

swirly
Running here and there doing errands. But it's a breezy 75º day so I'm happy and humming.
Our group, Life Unchained, is having a drive to collect items for Covenant House Pennsylvania, a provider of services to homeless and runaway youth in Philadelphia.
Got plenty of toiletries, notebooks and board games @ the $ Store and dragged them home.
Sitting on the balcony, eating a tuna hoagie, watching Squirrel Nutkin and listening to R.E.M.'s new album.
