Republican National Conventions, originally uploaded by ujima.

June 5 On this date in 1872, the Republican National Convention met in Philadelphia. Held during Reconstruction, this gathering was filled with substantial Black representation from Southern states.
For the first time in American History, three Blacks addressed a major national political convention: Robert B. Elliot, chairman of the South Carolina delegation; Joseph H. Rainy, South Carolina delegate; and John R. Lynch, Mississippi delegate.

Talk about a stranger in a strange land: I was a volunteer at the Republican National Convention here in Philadelphia in 2000. Mayor Street had asked the mostly Democrat citizens to volunteer to help out and to show Philadelphia citizens as helpful and friendly. I was doing well until I met the governor of Idaho and told him my I-da-ho joke. Some people have no class 8>DI remember that shirt! On the back it said, "Change the focus from the richest to the brokest." Lauren Hill. Was I being confrontational? LOL

Rainy day. I'm putting away winter/getting out summer clothes.
