When I heard that Dr. Gates' book had
been published, I *knew* I had to get one.
Since yesterday, I have spent most of my
time looking through the vintage illustrations
and reading the commentary.
Most people are unaware that Stowe's
Uncle Tom was in reality Josiah Henson
whose biography she had read. He was
an inspiration for her book and the story
is based on true events in his life.
