Door of No Return

Door of No Return

On February 27:
1872: Charlotte Ray, first Black woman lawyer, graduated
Harvard University
1960: Lunch counter sit-in participants in Nashville, Tennessee
were attacked by white teenagers.

One of the most emotional times of my life was walking through
this door on Goree Island, Senegal and thinking of all the
captives of the African Diaspora who boarded ships and
were were sent to slave in the Americas.

Scanning more pictures of the Senegal trip. As it was sunny & 40,
I called Betsy and walked with her on the roads for thirty minutes.
It helped some to dissipate the anger and melancholy I was
feeling. Betsy's ancestors suffered through the same holocaust
and diaspora as mine did. (heavy sighs)
