Stars on our flag

Stars on our flag, originally uploaded by ujima.

On February 21:
1862 Captain Nathaniel Gordon of the “Erie”, becomes the first convicted
slave trader hanged. He was caught carrying 800 men, women, and
children off the coast of West Africa.
1936 Barbara Charline Jordan, who is noted for being the first Black
keynote speaker at a Democratic National Convention and her role in
the indictment of President Richard Nixon during the Watergate hearings,
is born in Houston, TX.
1940 U.S. Representative John Lewis, an active member in the Civil
Rights Movement with participations in sit-ins at segregated lunch
counters, is born in Troy, AL.
1965 El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz (Malcolm X) American Black
Nationalist, is assassinated in New York City.

50ºF and very sunny. Everyone smiling and happy, but they'll be coughing
soon. Out to errands and an hour in the LAFitness pool. Going to help
Mom cook collards, chicken wings and sweet potatoes for Sis'
hooray-I'm-cancer-free dinner tonight. A rare (for us) yummy soul meal.
